COMPLIMENTARY BREAD AND WHIPPED BUTTER.
The table bread looks different compared to other The Keg locations. The bread looks more squared alone with flat, and tastes very hard. The texture actually resembles those triangular breads from Costco's baked goods section. A stiffer texture that requires more chewing (which is not necessarily bad), but still exhibiting a soft crumb.
SHRIMP COCKTAIL, CHILLED BLACK TIGER SHRIMP WITH A ZESTY MARTINI COCKTAIL SAUCE ($11.95).
The shrimp cocktail is always consistent at The Keg, meaty with a nice snap. The cocktail sauce also tastes light along with tangy. I enjoy The Keg's cocktail sauce because of the lighter taste compared to other establishments.
ESCARGOT STUFED MUSHROOM CAPS WITH GARLIC AND HERBS ($8.95).
10oz PRIME RIB WITH AN ATLANTIC LOBSTER TAIL ($42.95).
The prime rib is served medium rare as I requested, but tastes very bland. For some odd reason, the steak does not taste as flavourful as The Keg's in Burnaby. But despite the lack of seasoning and flavour, the steak does taste tender.
10oz PRIME RIB WITH DUNGENESS CRAB ($?)
My friend requested a medium rare prime rib as well and the steak tastes tender, but again, is lacking in seasoning and flavour. He also chose the dungeons crab which tastes generic, like previously frozen boiled crab that lacks that natural flavour (as expected). Moreover, the crab is extremely watery. The crab does not seem to be cooked to order and appears to be pre-cooked in the beginning of dinner services. For his choice of side, he ordered the baked potato with sour cream and bacon bits. The potato tastes soft and there is a good amount of sour cream and bacon.- Friendly and genuine server
- Fine dining service at a casual restaurant
NEGATIVES
- Bland prime rib
- Poor seafood
LITTLE THINGS
- Revisit post on The Keg at Coquitlam [here]
- Our server William was perfect. We asked if the entrees can come after we finished the appetizers (sometimes they follow very shortly after) and he offered to punch in the entrees when we were close to finishing the appies. This was really nice of him because most of the servers at The Keg say, "the kitchen brings them out when they are ready" or "we can keep them warm"
- I felt bad not ordering dessert (favourite is the Billy Miner's Pie) since William made our experience enjoyable, but we did not really have an appetite because of the bland tasting prime rib
