Another delayed post has been Excellent Tofu & Snack. I forgot where I had dinner before dropping by, possibly Shanghai House? Excellent Tofu & Snack has been here for many years and has always been my go to for tofu pudding, until I started making my own. The tofu shop is a small family owned business with friendly owners.
SOYMILK WITH GRASS JELLY ($4.25), SOY PUDDING WITH MAPLE SYRUP ($4.00) AND SOY PUDDING WITH WITH RED BEAN ($4.00). The soy milk tastes watered down and has a very faint taste of soy milk. Even though I love supporting family businesses, I really have to say this is one of the worst soy milks I ever had and it has tasted better here - but at least a couple of years ago. For the tofu puddings, the pudding is pretty watery and does not have the nice smooth slight kept structure. The maple syrup made the pudding more watery than it already was and had a watery syrupy taste, rather than a thicker maple taste. For the red beans, they tasted average, nothing special and IMO the highlight should be the tofu pudding. Ginger syrup and sugar syrup is available on the side at every table.
2L MEDIUM UNSWEETENED AND SWEETENED TOFU PUDDING ($8.00) AND 4L LARGE SWEETENED SOY MILK ($5.50). Grabbed some extra for home to see if maybe they would taste better but the puddings were pretty watery too and the soy milk tasted watery as well. I understand what businesses have to do sometimes to make more profit but I rather have them charge higher prices for a better quality.
POSITIVES
- Friendly staff
- Open late night
- Tofu pudding tastes good enough
NEGATIVES
- Quality has gone down which is understandable
LITTLE THINGS
- Tofu pudding does not taste comparable to how it was a few years ago and the quality is pretty much below average, but good enough if you are craving for them
Food: 2/5
Service: 2.5/5
