If it was not for Papa John's being one of the few pizza restaurants in the Lougheed Mall area, I would not even know about them! Papa John's is a franchise and their slogan is, "Better Pizza. Better Ingredients". Furthermore, if comparing Papa John's to Domino's and Pizza Hut, I believe the last two are more popular.
My friend and I ordered from Papa John's twice and on both occasions, the delivery drivers were friendly and arrived within the time stated. On the second visit, the pizza actually arrived fifteen minutes before the estimated time of arrival. As for the delivery charge, it is $3.00 which we could have saved, had we walked literally across the street lol!
LARGE ORIGINAL CRUST PIZZA, 3 TOPPINGS ($14.99).
Every order of pizza includes a side of garlic butter and a pepperoncini. First up, the selection of toppings include banana peppers, roma tomatoes and spicy Italian sausage. The pizza tastes very light, neither salty nor greasy, and the tomatoes taste very juicy. As for the spicy Italian sausage, the meat tastes moist and the seasoning is not heavy on the salt. Papa John's seems to offer noticeably healthier and lighter pizzas, which may not be good for those who prefer that fat greasiness (in the good way). As for us, we felt it was fine; a great simple and light meal.

For the second order, the toppings include Canadian bacon, pepperoni and pineapple. In addition, similar to the first order, the pizza tastes very light. There is a nice sweetness from the pineapples and neither the Canadian bacon or the pepperoni tastes even remotely salty. As for the crust, Papa John's tastes very light, airy and crusty. The bottom of the pizzas are not soggy or on the merge of being damp too, and tastes crisp.
TOTAL: $34.65 + TIP $5.35 = $40.00.
SECOND ORDER…
On another occasion, we ordered three medium sized pizzas rather than a couple of large ones for comparison purposes. Plus, it was the same price! Papa John's occasionally has promotions and in our case, we went for three 3 topping pizzas for only $29.99.
COMPLIMENTARY GARLIC BUTTER.
Starting with the garlic butter, it tastes fantastic! Rich, buttery and garlicky… so good but yet, not very good for the body!
MEDIUM ORIGINAL CRUST PIZZA, 3 TOPPINGS.
Since we wanted to take advantage of the promotion and refrained from trying Papa John's speciality pizzas which start at $17.95, the toppings we chose are very similar for every order. Our first choice includes banana peppers, Italian sausage and mushroom.

Last up, the toppings include Canadian bacon, Italian sausage and tomatoes. The tomatoes are the highlight because of the fresh flavour and juiciness.
All the pizzas taste very similar with the minor adjustment of one or a couple of different ingredients, and the tomato sauce tastes good. There is a pure tomato base with a blend of light spices and tastes neither too runny nor salty. However, again, the sauce may be bland and boring to some. As for the cheese, there is a fair amount of mozzarella on each pizza.
In addition, consistent with the first order, the crusts are very light, fluffy and crisp. Furthermore, the pizzas taste healthier as well as light, compared to many pizza restaurants. However, for those who prefer the greasier ones, may consider the pizzas at Papa John's bland. Also by "healthier", the pizzas are not as cheesy compared to other places.
TOTAL: $34.65 + TIP $5.35 = $40.00.
POSITIVES
- Quality ingredients
- Consistent and "healthier" pizzas
- Friendly delivery drivers who arrived on time, if not earlier
NEGATIVES
- Some may consider the pizzas too light
LITTLE THINGS
- I remember trying Papa John's chicken strips a few years ago and they were not very good. The strips tasted dry and the batter was bland, I think the item may actually be off the menu now. Other than the strips, I remember the wings were okay
- Medium vs Large? We prefer the medium ones for more crust!
