The most important choice at Yolk's, poached eggs or chicken n' waffles?
Being a lazy eater, chicken n' waffles seemed less messy and easier to eat, plus, many people rave about them. I was not really hungry when I ordered from Yolk's but now looking back, I should have ordered more food such as the poached eggs, hashbrowns and orange juice. Because now, I have to make another trip just to try everything, sigh. The good news is, I am a picky eater and want to come back, that must mean something right? The line up was not very long and the friendly cashier mentioned there would be a fifteen minute wait. If there is usually a somewhat long wait, this may be a problem for those who are on their lunch break, but hey, at least everything is made to order!
CRISPY FRIED ORGANIC CHICKEN AND WAFFLE WITH SYRUP, BUTTER AND GRAVY ($11.75) + REAL MAPLE SYRUP ($1.00). The waffles taste soft as well as fluffy but also a bit doughy, resembling an undercooked unpleasant mushy texture. A slight crispiness would have been nice too. Also, the amount of maple syrup is a bit stingy.. but I guess that can be justified since "real maple syrup" is not as cheap as artificial. The chicken is served smoking hot, freshly deep fried and has a shake n' bake style batter. The panko crusted chicken has a meaty stiff tenderness with a crispy exterior, however, I was not a fan of the crunchy breading. For the white gravy, there is a good amount, not too little or much, but some more cream could have been used as it tasted a bit floury. Everything is made to order and personally, the whole chicken n' waffle thing is not meant for me. I preferred eating everything separate rather than together, although a better tasting gravy and breading can probably persuade me.
POSITIVES
- Friendly staff
- Food is made to order
- Chicken does not taste dry
NEGATIVES
- Waffle could have been better
- A different breading would probably taste better (possibly personal preference)
LITTLE THINGS
- I want to try everything else at the food truck since the staff was friendly and the rest of the menu seems more "me" compared to the chicken n' waffles
Food: 2.5/5 (probably 3-4/5 for those who like this)
Service: 5/5 (N/A but super friendly cashier)

ReplyDeleteNot really justified because you are paying the additional 1.00
