Huang's Beef Noodles

Huang's Beef Noodles is a small neighbourhood restaurant on Victoria Drive and has less than eight tables available. Walking in, the restaurant was full with two large families and a few single diners. One of the diners was friendly and quickly slurped up his noodles to give us a table!

MARINATED TEA EGG (1.00).
The egg is served hot and does not taste dry, salty or rubbery which has happened at other restaurants. It pretty much tastes like a generic tea egg topped with oyster sauce.

DEEP FRIED CHILLI SALTED TOFU ($3.75).
Despite a few soggy pieces, some of the tofu has a nice crisp exterior and tastes juicy. In addition, the tofu tastes flavourful with the use of fresh garlic rather than jarred, and has sprinkles of five spice powder. The deep fried tofu is actually not bad and has a nice garlic spice taste.

TAIWANESE POPCORN CHICKEN ($5.95).
The chicken tastes perfectly crisp as well as juicy, and has a five spice as well as peppery seasoning. Furthermore, I like the addition of the finely chopped basil. However, the chicken has an odd taste and has possibly been sitting around for too long before it was battered and deep fried.

SHANGHAI STEAMED DUMPLINGS, XIAO LONG BAO ($5.95).
The XLB has a thick layer of skin and is similar to Taiwanese dumplings, meaning, the juice dries up fast. As for the filling, the meat tastes smooth and there is a good amount of fatty pork. I definitely recommend eating these as soon as possible because when the XLB cools down, the skin rips and sticks to the liner.

SPICY BEEF NOODLE IN SOUP ($7.25). The noodles have a flavourful beef broth as well as a nice medium spiciness, without tasting oily. As for the noodles, they are freshly made as well as perfectly cooked with a pleasant chewiness.

SPICY HALF TENDON, HALF MEAT WITH NOODLE IN SOUP ($8.25).
The bowl of noodles is the same as above, with the addition of tendon. Both the tendon as well as brisket tastes tender and not chewy at all. Furthermore, there is a good meat to noodle ratio and the restaurant does not cheap out.

TOTAL: $34.60 + TIP $5.40 = $40.00.
Overall the food is alright and may do the job for those craving for beef noodles.
