Via Tevere Pizzeria Napoletana

All our pizzas are hand stretched and baked for approximately 90 seconds in our 900 degree wood-fired oven creating a pizza that has a light and fluffy crust with a crispy edge and charred spots. True to the Neapolitan way, our pizzas arrive at the table uncut to preserve the soft thin centre and toppings. Neapolitan pizza is traditionally enjoyed either with a fork and knife or ripped and folded and eat by hand.

That awkward late lunch or early dinner when you have not ate anything all day. Yup, happened to me and it was 5:00pm. Although fortunately being in the area and that Vie Tevere opens at 5:00pm, it actually worked out! Vie Tevere is known for their neapolitan pizzas (although I was told otherwise on Instagram) and apparently the restaurant gets busy, as in there are always long line ups! Luckily arriving right at opening, there was no line up. The neapolitan pizza joint has a relaxing atmosphere and is not that big, with less than thirty seats.

Szechuan Chongqing 重慶大飯店 : Commercial Drive location

Yeah… not going to bother taking another photo of the restaurant's exterior LOL, this photo is good enough. Around 9:00pm on a Sunday, where is there to go for Chinese food? Other than the usual late night restaurants on Kingsway, Fraser or Main Street, apparently Szechuan Chongqing is open until 10:30pm (not really late night but it was useful in my situation)!

I have been trying to come here for a while now and well, I just do not bother. Possibly because my family has never been here, or family friends… or hey, even my own friends! Meaning, there must be a reason right? Plus, when I tried visiting the location in Burnaby, their seafood was $5.00/lb higher than Kirin! As for the interior, the restaurant looks quite nice. The interior follows a neutral color scheme, has a high ceiling, chandeliers, and is fairy big as well as spacious.

Kishimoto Japanese Kitchen 岸本

Kishimoto, one of the most talked about Japanese cuisine restaurants on Commercial Drive. Many people comment on Kishimoto's food presentation and the restaurant's banner even says, "eat with your eyes!". This makes me hesitant and gives the impression that Kishimoto may possibly be an average Japanese restaurant, focusing more on presentation than quality. On a weeknight, the restaurant had a short wait of ten minutes. A friendly customer was kind and told me to write my name on the wait list, rather than waiting for one of the waitresses to speak with me. The restaurant's interior is dimly lit and had African music playing in the background. I am not a fan of the dim lighting because I feel like a Japanese restaurant should always be well lit. Also, Kishimoto is a small restaurant with less than twelve tables, no wonder people always say there is a line up.

Memphis Blues Barbeque House : Commerical Drive location

My photos have been looking pretty blurry lately so I decided to start using my digital camera (do people even say digital camera?). The camera looks really cute, I might upload a photo later of it later. I think I got the camera in December 2009 (since the first photo taken was from then) and it is a touch screen as well as hot pink. The price for the camera was ridiculous since it was a touch screen and I got it mainly for that reason, plus, it is hot pink. After using the camera for a couple of weeks, I dropped it once and thought what was the point of using a camera when I have my phone? However, now that I have dropped my phone many times and the lenses are scratched, I appreciate the camera now! Plus, the camera looks very cute and despite dropping it once, still looks brand new and feels like I just bought it LOL.

I have been wanting to try Memphis for a while but could never find the restaurant! The restaurant's exterior is not well lit and after trying to find the restaurant ten times, I was finally successful. Memphis is a self serve restaurant - order at the counter, pay and grab your drinks. We did not know this until the waitress told us to grab any seat and said, "when you're ready to order, come up to cash". The restaurant has a casual old school Southern atmosphere and comfortable booth seating arrangements.

Cassia Cupcakery

I will be honest.
I am an awesome baker.
Baking is very easy.
You literally follow the directions step by step.
You cannot fail in baking.
Home Economics 10, no one in my class failed.

However, these cupcakes failed. The topping is too wet/damp, the batter is over mixed, the cupcakes are not fluffy and is a bit over baked. Furthermore, the cupcakes taste stale even though they are probably are not the cupcakes are baked (hopefully) every morning.

What a disappointment. A reason why people go to bakeries is for fresh cupcakes rather than packaged ones from grocery stores. In addition, the icing tastes average, neither too sweet but could have been smoother, and a tiny bit of more butter would have been better. I was so upset because I hate wasting food and BF told me to stop trying to eat them, that is how bad it was. I am such a "children in Africa" person and all he says is, "do you want to fly the food back?" This is the only second cupcake store I have been to, asides from Cupcakes by Heather and Lori.

Actually, I boycotted Cupcakes by Healther and Lori for a while because they made me upset a few times. I used to get cupcakes at their store weekly, until one day their voice recording said their locations are open Sunday-Thursday until 9pm, and Friday-Saturday until 7pm. So, I harassed BF to rush to the West Broadway location, Denman location, and Thurlow location, which all closed at 7pm on a Thursday night. I was furious, confused, and craving cupcakes. I kept calling to confirm that I was not hearing their hours wrong, and I was not. I was pretty pissed and wrote them an e-mail. They responded asking what location I called and I replied saying that it was not a person I spoke with like stated in my original e-mail; it was the voice recording that was wrong and literally BF drove to three different locations. I never heard from them after that. They changed their voice recording though, thanks to me.

Another situation. It was Chinese New Year week at Aberdeen Centre; I got a dozen cupcakes and their vanilla ones were burnt and covered with icing. Technically for $31.00/dozen cupcakes, it is over priced and any business should not even bother selling burnt cupcakes. Cupcakes are so cheap to make and for someone to start their own cupcake store and sell burnt cupcakes? That is wrong.

Fine, if they had a section like some bakeries do for their "failed" goods and offer a cheaper price, that is completely okay because you are acknowledging they are flawed. Furthermore, if you go to the Oakridge location, there are always so many cupcakes that have ripped sides along the topping because they were stuck together from being removed. Technically for the price you pay, they should be perfect.

Anyways, back to Cassia Cupcakery… the bakery should improve on their cupcakes because it is so darn easy to make!

Food: 0.5/5
Service: 5/5 (guy was really friendly)
