New Lakeview Seafood and Wonton Restaurant

REVISIT POST ON NEW LAKEVIEW SEAFOOD [HERE]

Continuing with my interest in finding not very known or the most appealing Chinese restaurants, brings me to New Lakeview Seafood. I remember trying to come here a few weeks ago but poorly judged the restaurant by the exterior, and assumed that New Lakeview would be "dirty" inside so decided to pass after parking.

However, I decided not to judge a book by its cover and based on convenience decided to try New Lakeview again. Or, I mean… walk in this time.

Well, New Lakeview surprised me. The interior is squeaky clean and not dirty at all. The restaurant may be considered on the smaller side with only 13-14 tables and there was only one man at the front, who I believe is the owner. He was friendly to every customer as well as the regulars, and humble.

As for the seating arrangements, they are spacious as well as comfortable and I appreciate the restaurant for not squeezing in a couple of more tables, which they could have done.

CRAB MEAT WITH CREAMED CORN ($7.95).
The soup has a rich chicken broth along with a generous amount of crab meat, a fair amount of corn, and the egg drops are nicely done with a golden swirl. Furthermore, there is a nice consistency where the soup is not too thick or thin. However, if I wanted to be picky, the addition of green onions would have been nice but we still enjoyed the soup with them. Honestly, the soup tastes cream and is comparable to Sun Sui Wah's, definitely one of the better ones I have had. Also, I am usually not a fan! I practically finished the soup all to myself and left two bowls for him.

3LB GREEN ONION AND GINGER SAUCE CRAB ($10.99/LB).
The crab is lightly battered and tastes fresh, with stiff and flaky meat. As for the sauce, there is a refreshing taste because of the green onion and ginger, and does not taste too salty. In addition, New Lakeview offers one of the lowest prices for crab right now!

SALTY FISH AND CHICKEN FRIED RICE ($9.50).
The fried rice has a good amount of chicken, salted fish, green onion and egg. All the ingredients well fused together and the flavours are there, every single ingredient. Furthermore, the rice does not taste mushy and none of the ingredients are overwhelming. Usually, I am not a fan of salted fish fried rice because I find them too salty. However, the saltiness at New Lakeview's only comes from the salty fish and the fried rice does not taste too salty at all. Fried rice is such an easy dish to make and the last few restaurants I have been to half assed it, but surprisingly the fried rice is well executed and tasty here.

CURRIED CHICKEN ($9.95).
The curry chicken has a hot spiciness that neither of us expected. However, we like spicy. The spiciness is also appreciated because many restaurants never make their curry spicy, and the usual spiciness is normal. As for the chicken, the meat tastes tender but there is too much corn starch in the sauce. The sauce is too thick and dried up fast. In addition, if I wanted to be picky, red or yellow peppers would made the curry chicken more appealing.

PRESERVED EGG AND PORK CONGEE ($5.00).
The congee tastes smooth, flavourful as well as creamy, and has that yummy plain white flavour. I asked for no MSG or salt (I prefer plain congee) and loved the congee. Also, there is a perfect thickened consistency and I like the julienned pork along with the diced century egg.

COMPLIMENTARY FORTUNE COOKIES.
Mine says "even a brief pause to rest should be worth taking now", which is a bit true because I got sick this day! That is why I went to Peking Restaurant earlier and to end my day with New Lakeview Restaurant.

POSITIVES
- Clean restaurant
- One of my favourite congees (3.5/5)
- Great crab meat with creamed corn (3.5/5)

NEGATIVES
- Average food
- Not sure what the restaurant is like during busier times

LITTLE THINGS
- Revisit post on New Lakeview Seafood [here]
- I would more likely come back if the restaurant was open late night
- A lot better than Peking Restaurant, which we visited for lunch

Food: 2.5/5
Service: 5/5 (kind of N/A because they were closing but the owner was very friendly and would have done anything for you)
