Glenburn Soda Fountain & Confectionery

A few months ago during a late lunch at Burgers Etc, I noticed an old school ice cream shop across the street and knew we had to make a visit. So, months later after revisiting Burgers Etc, we stopped by Glenburn Soda Fountain & Confectionery after dinner. The ice cream shop is located in North Burnaby along Hastings Street, and has a very homey old fashioned atmosphere. Walking in, we noticed the extensive chalkboard menus plastered on the wall with attractive as well as easy to read font, and the shop offers ice cream from Birchwood Dairy, floats, milkshakes as well as sundaes, and other goodies.

As for the seating arrangements, there are only a few seats by the counter which would be my first choice (however, some kiddies already took them!) and around three to four tables.

SPECIALTY SUNDAE, MAPLE LOVERS ($8.00).
The maple ice cream tastes smooth as well as creamy, with a flavourful but not too overly sweet taste of maple. As for the fancy stuff, hot maple syrup mixed with walnuts is drizzled on top (which the shop calls "wet walnuts"), and the sundae is then topped with whipped cream as well as crushed toasted walnuts, and a dash of salt. Surprisingly and fortunately, the sundae does not taste overly sweet at all! I was able to finish this all by myself with no problems.
CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE ($6.00).
The milkshake is served with a paper straw and leftovers are kept in a separate stainless steel cup. In addition, paper straws are also available for purchase! As for the chocolate milkshake, it tastes chocolately as well as creamy, and generic without tasting overly sweet. It basically tastes like blended chocolate ice cream.

TOTAL: $14.70 + TIP $2.30 = $16.00.

Overall to me, Glenburn is about the old fashioned diner atmosphere and is on the pricier side. However, the owners do care about the quality of their products because the shop only offers housemade sauces as well as sodas, and tries to use local fruits and nuts as much as possible.

POSITIVES
- Plenty of choices
- Housemade sauces and sodas
- Vintage diner atmosphere
- Nothing tastes overly sweet

NEGATIVES
- Pricey
- Not much seating space

LITTLE THINGS
- I would come back to try the brownie sundae
