Fatburger : Burnaby location

I have been to Fatburger around only five times and from what I remember, the burgers are nothing special and can get pricey with an additional purchase of a drink as well as a side. So why the revisit? Asides from convenience, the Burnaby location offers "Buffalo's World Famous Wings" and I have always wanted to try them. It also kind of sucks because Fatburger was offering a Groupon or SocialShopper voucher that I could have gotten a few days before! And I was even thinking pshh, I would not be going there LOL.

Walking in, the burger joint is well ventilated and the staff is extremely friendly, especially the manager (gotta love a friendly staff!). Basically customers order at the front, receive a number, pay and take a seat. Then a cashier brings the food out to the table.

Fatburger offers breakfast burgers as well as specials, shakes, beers as well as alcoholic beverages, baby to double king burgers as well as speciality ones, and turkey as well as chicken to vegetarian patties. A pretty extensive menu for a burger joint. In addition, the Burnaby location offers wings, chips, curly fries and dessert!

1LB BIG BUFFALO TASTER WINGS, SIX (9.95).
Sticking to the smallest order in case the wings are not that great, was a safe choice. Our choice of sauce is the Carolina fire BBQ which has three fire symbols indicating the level of spiciness. Only three fire symbols? I am surprised we did not go for the four or five! Although it is my fault to be honest, I thought the wings would actually taste spicy, but was wrong. The wings have a mild hint of spiciness and lacks a nice flavourful barbecue sauce. The sauce pretty much tastes like a flavourful sauce that is watered down. As for the wings, there is not even the slightest crisp and although they are a large size, tastes only a bit moist.

SPECIALTY BURGERS, HAWAIIAN CHEESEBURGER WITH MAPLE BACON, SWISS CHEESE, PINEAPPLE AND TERIYAKI SAUCE ($8.99).
I do not know what I was thinking. Why did I not go for the backyard BBQ bacon or old style bacon cheddar? Lame. It was probably because I have never tried the hawaiian here before. The soft and lightly toasted bun holds the ingredients well and does not get mushy. As for the patty, moist as well as quite tasty and went well with the grilled pineapple, along with the bacon and cheddar (usually the burger comes with swiss but I requested for cheddar). If anything, I found the teriyaki sauce a bit too heavy and overwhelming.

MONDAY MADNESS, ORIGINAL FATBURGER AND FRIES ($8.49) + AMERICAN CHEESE, EGG ($1.99) AND BANANA PEPPERS.
This burger looks and tastes so much better than my hawaiian! The beef patty tastes moist and the banana peppers provide a nice spiciness. In addition, the lettuce provides a nice crunch as well as a refreshing taste, and the burger is huge with the addition of the egg!

UPGRADE FRIES TO POUTINE AND GRAVY ($2.50).
Every fry is perfectly crisp and the poutine has a good amount of partially melted cheese curds. As for the gravy, it tastes generic and not heavy on the salt. The poutine is actually not bad.

MOCHA JAVA ($4.79).
The drink is well blended, not overly sweet or bitter, and is topped with whipped cream.

TOTAL: $38.55.

POSITIVES
- Fresh made to order patties
- Friendly staff

NEGATIVES
- Prices add up easily
- Wings are average at best

LITTLE THINGS
- Stamp cards are available (purchase six burgers and get one free!)
- Organized assembly line (was nice to see the kitchen using a timer for consistent patties)
- If in Burnaby, I rather grab a burger at Burgers Etc
