New Lakeview Seafood and Wonton Restaurant (2nd visit)

FIRST POST ON NEW LAKEVIEW SEAFOOD AND WONTON [HERE]

My first visit to New Lakeview Seafood was only around a month and a half ago and being in the area, BF  wanted to make a revisit because of our enjoyable dinner the last time. New Lakeview Seafood is located in the Cariboo/Lougheed Burnaby area and the exterior does not look very appealing, but is a clean restaurant.

CRAB MEAT WITH CREAM CORN SOUP ($7.95)
The photo on the right is from the first visit and the photo on the left is from the revisit.

The soup has a very mild corn with chicken broth flavour but at the same time when cooled down, we could see and taste the corn starch. Furthermore, the soup only has three small pieces of crab meat and I have never seen any restaurant include such a small amount. We ordered crab meat with cream corn soup, not egg with cream corn soup.
In addition, the amount of corn is a bit on the stingy side and it seems like the cook used a small can of Cream of Corn soup. How did I go from comparing the soup on my first visit to Sun Sui Wah's and now having this? The pieces of crab also tastes like old crab meat, compared to the usual packaged crab meat taste. If the soup tasted like this the first time, I would not have ordered it again. However, the soup did taste extremely good the first time and almost perfect, one of the reasons the only reason we revisited.

3LB CREAM AND BUTTER SAUCE CRAB ($10.99/LB).
Note: this visit was around a week ago and has no relation to my previous post on Kwong Chow Congee Noodle House, consider it bad timing.
The crab looks and tastes more like a 2 3/4lb rather than a 3lb. The meat tastes soft as well as tender, and the texture is more loose compared to a stiffer and meatier 3lb crab. Furthermore, the shell is also a lot softer and larger crabs have a noticeably harder shell. I mean, most Chinese restaurants will overcharge on their seafood but never by more than 1/4lb. As for the sauce, there is a mild cream flavour and does not taste very flavourful; however, not necessarily bland. I definitely recommend New Lakeview's green onion and ginger sauce more, since it tastes a lot better.
Side note, we did receive a 3LB crab on the first visit.

SOYA SAUCE CHICKEN, HALF ($9.50).
The soy chicken tastes freshly made from scratch, unlike other restaurants that precook and microwave before serving. However, technically it is not really a soy sauce chicken because the skin does not look slick or taste smooth. Nevertheless, the chicken tastes tender, has a light soy flavour, and neither dry nor juicy.

PRESERVED EGG AND PORK CONGEE ($5.00).
The congee tastes just as good as the first visit; creamy as well as flavourful, with that nice white bland flavour. In addition, the congee has a good thick consistency and does not water down towards the end, and the slices of pork taste tender. The congee is a pretty big bowl too!

COMPLIMENTARY SLICES OF ORANGE.
The orange tastes sweet, bonus.

POSITIVES
- Tasty congee, one of my favourites
- Soy chicken is freshly made

NEGATIVES
- Only the congee was good on this visit
- Inconsistent soup

LITTLE THINGS
- First post on New Lakeview Seafood [here]
- First visit was a lot better and the other owner is more friendly
- BF wants to make a third visit and hopes the soup will taste like the first visit
- One of those restaurants where you have to know what to order
