Tin Tin Seafood Harbour 天天漁港 : Dim Sum

DINNER POST ON TIN TIN SEAFOOD HARBOUR [HERE]

We decided to try out Tin Tin Seafood Harbour because it is located at the former location of Sea Harbour, and we wanted to compare the two. The interior looks fairly nice and clean, but the decor is nothing special compared to other Chinese fine dining restaurants.

MANGO PUDDING ($3.80).
Since I forgot to order mango pudding at Kirin yesterday, I made sure to remember this time! Also as usual, dessert can sometimes be the first dish to come out which sucks because I want my dessert at the end of dim sum . As for the presentation, it looks fairly nice, exhibiting a piece of cookie, condensed milk and drizzles of mango sauce. Actually, this is the nicest presentation I have ever seen during dim sum (although unfortunately the cookie tastes stale). The mango pudding tastes pretty good too, really rich and flavourful.

EGG YOLK PUDDING BUNS ($4.65).
After the mango pudding arrived, so did the rest of the dishes at once. The buns are pillowy soft and the custard filling tastes properly made. The gooey custard has a rich milky yolk flavour along with a hint of sweetness. The worst scenario is when the filling is all dried up, which happens more than you think!

MINI DELIGHTFUL STICKY RICE ROLLED IN LOTUS LEAF ($5.25).
The sticky rice tastes very average but the pork does taste tender. There is not much sauce however. What is the difference between a $3.00 or a $5.00 one? I have had a lot better.

STEAMED SPARERIBS AND PUMPKIN ($4.65).
The sauce is very light but the spareribs taste tender along with flavourful, and exhibit a touch of spiciness from the red chilli. However, the pieces are too big.

STEAMED CHICKEN FEET IN HOUSE SAUCE ($4.95).
The chicken feet are overcooked and the pieces broke apart. In addition, the skin is unpleasantly gooey. But despite that, the sauce is light and neither salty nor oily.

MINI MILK EGG TARTS ($4.65).
The crust tastes flaky and the custard does not taste bland, despite the muted color. There is a slight sweetness and the custard looks glossy smooth.

DEEP FRIED TARO DUMPLING WITH SHRIMP AND PORK ($4.95).
The dumplings lack that flaky crispiness and are fairly oily. However, the curry filling is not bad. The curry flavour is neither overwhelming nor weak, but is only average. There could have been more taro too.

STEAMED SHAO MAI DUMPLING WITH SHRIMP AND CRAB MEAT ($4.95).
The shao mai tastes very dry along with rubbery and not appetizing. Furhtermore, the dumplings only consist of one stiff prawn.

STEAMED SHRIMP DUMPLINGS ($4.95).
As for the ha gao, the skin is very thick and the shrimp filling is poorly executed. The skin tastes rubbery and the filling is dry along with chewy, somewhat resembling paper.

SHARK'S FIN, MIXED SEAFOOD AND MEAT DUMPLING IN SOUP ($13.80).
The dumpling arrived last and took forty five minutes! The soup also is pricier than many restaurants' by around $6.00-$7.00. As for the soup base, there is a light chicken broth and is nothing special. But hey, at least there is a chicken flavour. As for the dumpling, it is pretty good. The shark's fin is not shredded which I prefer and there is a generous portion. Furthermore, the dumpling includes some shredded crab meat along with a scallop which tastes very moist, making the ingredients justify the price. Furthermore, the soup costs less than New Startlet's by $5.00 and tastes ten times better. Actually, I really enjoy the dumpling.

Some of the dishes at Tin Tin Seafood are good such as the mango pudding, egg yolk buns, and shark's fin dumpling. However, the rest of the dishes are only average or mediocre. We arrived around 11:00am - 12:00pm and the restaurant was only 20% full too. Moreover, every table ordered some sort of hot pot or a noodle dish rather than dim sum. So perhaps lunch may be better than their dim sum? As for the service, it is hard to wave someone down despite the slow restaurant but no one looked rude or miserable.

NEGATIVES
- No service
- Pricer dim sum
- Average or mediocre food
