Tacofino Cantina

Grrr where was Tacofino Cantina last Friday?! I raved about their albacore tuna tacos to my friend and we tried coming here last week, but the truck never showed! We ended up having to go to La Taqueria instead too because we were really craving for tacos. In addition, after eating, we even came back to check if Tacofino showed up and that darn food truck honestly did not show!

TUNA TA-TACO, SOY, SESAME, WAKAME, GINGER AND WASABI MAYO ($6.50).
So today we tried again and thank goodness the truck showed up! The tuna tacos are one of my favourite items and is the only thing that I would come back for (and enjoy) at Tacofino. The first time I had these was at Tacofino Commissary. I remember being pissed because we ordered a few tacos and a burrito, which all tasted underwhelming. However, I happened to accidentally save the tuna taco for last and fell in love with it. Moreover, I was able to forgive Tacofino for the other crappy items.

The tuna is evenly seared, tastes fresh, practically melts in the mouth (in a good way, not the mushy kind…) and there is a good amount of shredded cabbage, ginger, seaweed, tomato and onion. The tuna taco basically tastes light and refreshing, but also satisfying. For those who do not like ginger, may want to let the staff know because my first bite was a mouthful of delicious ginger and tuna (I love ginger).

POSITIVES
- Friendly staff
- Great tuna taco

NEGATIVES
- Inconsistent schedule

LITTLE THINGS
- Post on Tacofino White Lightning Truck [here]

Food: 5/5
Service: N/A

This is a photo frame from Tacofino Commissary (on Hastings Street). The first item is the Fish Taco (crispy ling cod, cabbage, chipotle mayo, salsa fresca), where the batter was very crunchy and the fish tasted dry. Following is the Chorizo Verde and Cheese which had dry tasting chorizo. Next, the Pork Jowl (cabbage, fried shallot, pineapple, sriracha) tasted very dry and not good at all.
