Tentatsu

REVISIT POST ON TENTATSU [HERE]

Tentatsu is a Japanese restaurant that offers large portions at a cheaper price, similar to Sushi California, Sushi Garden and Sushi Town. The restaurant is located on Hastings Street in Vancouver and has booth seating arrangements as well as rooms.

THE TUNA AND SALMON SASHIMI, TORO SASHIMI, NIGIRI [TORO, TUNA, SALMON], AVOCADO ROLL, DELUXE NABEYAKI SEAFOOD UDON, OYSTER MOTOYAKI, TIGER MAYO, SAKURA ROLL AND AWESOME ROLL.

TUNA AND SALMON SASHIMI ($5.95).
The sashimi tastes fresh and the slices are big. The tuna sashimi is at a perfect temperature and as for the salmon, despite tasting slightly warm, still has that nice fatty as well as butteriness.

EYE OPENER SUSHI BAR DIY COMBO,
NIGIRI [TORO, TUNA, SALMON] AND AVOCADO ROLL ($6.95).
The nigiri has a good firmness and does not fall apart, neither is it too stiff. Starting with the tuna, again like the order of sashimi, tastes perfect. However, the toro and salmon tastes slightly warm. As for the avocado roll, the slices are ripe and despite the rice a bit on the heavy side, it is fine. I also like the use of both sesame and roasted seeds.

TORO SASHIMI ($7.75).
Although the sashimi is fresh, the toro does not melt in the mouth and again, is slightly too warm.

DELUXE NABEYAKI SEAFOOD UDON ($7.95).

The nabeyaki seafood udon does not have a chicken or udon soup base, however, there is an extremely very light udon seaweed taste. As for the ingredients, salmon, clam, egg swirl, prawn tempura, butterflied prawn, red snapper and egg, everything tastes overcooked. Although for the price, there is a good amount of seafood. The value is pretty much here though and the nabeyaki udon is actually served in a nabe.

SAKURA ROLL, AVOCADO AND MASAGO TOPPED WITH SALMON ($3.95).
Whattttt… avocado, masago and salmon? Yes please! I like simple sushi and almost every roll has cream cheese, unagi or tempura, so this is a win for me. The only problem is the rice was too loose and the roll fell apart.

TIGER MAYO ($6.95).
The prawns are slightly butterflied and nicely fried with a crisp exterior, placed on a garden salad. As for the taste, the prawns taste moist and despite not preferring this type of batter since I find it too crunchy, the prawns are fried well and the batter is not too heavy.

AWESOME ROLL, CRAB MEAT, AVOCADO, TOPPED WITH GRILLED SALMON, GREEN ONIONS AND BONITO FLAKES ($6.95).
Wow, the last time I had this was at Sushi Town when I was in high school. Honestly, almost everyone I knew would go to Sushi Town because of the awesome roll LOL. The awesome roll is pretty much a california roll topped with grilled salmon, bonito flakes and masago. Uh… or is supposed to be, as stated on the menu and where it originally comes from. However, rather than grilled salmon, it comes with salmon tempura?! If a restaurant is going to copy a sushi roll and write it on the menu, then make it right yenno?

OYSTER MOTOYAKI ($4.75).
The oyster motoyaki has a sour taste which some may or not like, and a light taste of mayonnaise. by the way, these oysters are fresh and not canned!

POSITIVES
- Cannot beat the price
- Large variety of specialty rolls
- Quality is not bad

NEGATIVES
- Friendly waitresses but no service
- Accuracy on the menu would be nice

LITTLE THINGS
- Revisit post on Tentatsu [here]
- I am not at home where my parents will ask if I want to grab the last few pieces off a plate so they can clear the dish, and I do not like it when restaurants ask especially since all our plates were pretty much full
- Do I recommend? Why not? Cheap, affordable and not bad
- Better than Yo Sushi and cheaper

Service: 2.5/5
