FIRST POST ON GOLDEN LAKE SEAFOOD [
HERE]
Shortly only a week after the
first visit, I had to come back! Mainly for Golden Lakes' cookies... LOL. This time, I did manage to snap a photo of the restaurants' exterior, from the car… since I still find it embarrassing that people can see me from the inside of the restaurant!
CRAB MEAT BRAISED WITH SHARK'S FIN SOUP ($13.98/BOWL).
The soup tastes just as good as the
first visit - flavourful, rich, not salty and has a few pieces of crab meat.
2 1/4lb LOBSTER STEAMED WITH GARLIC ($18.90/LB).
On the
last visit, we noticed another table ordering the lobster steamed with garlic which looked really good, so we decided to try it this time. The lobster tastes perfectly cooked and the meat has a nice bounciness, along with a flavourful garlic taste. Although personally, I prefer the supreme broth or cream and butter sauce, because the minced garlic was a bit too salty.
BRAISED COD WITH TOFU HOT POT ($14.98).
The sauce has a very light taste and is neither too saucy, thick or salty. Furthermore, the tofu tastes pretty good; juicy with a nice slight crispiness. As for the cod, the meat tastes slightly stiff which is somewhat expected compared to a halibut hot pot (like
Kwan Lucks').
CHINESE MUSHROOM WITH BABY GREENS ($19.98).
The Chinese mushrooms taste very soft as well as tender, and juicy. As for the vegetables, the baby bok choy tastes perfect and slightly undercooked which I prefer. However to most, may prefer a softer taste than crunchy. As for the sauce, it tastes very light and not heavy or salty. For those who are fans of Chinese mushroom, this is a most order… despite costing overpriced considering higher end restaurants like Sun Sui Wah or Kirin, charge the same but replace Chinese mushrooms for scallops.
YEUNG CHOW FRIED RICE ($13.98).
The most generic fried rice is yeung chow, consisting of barbecue pork, shrimp, green onion and egg. The fried rice has a nice golden color and the ingredients are properly fused together. However, the rice does taste a bit too dry.
BRAISED CRISPY SQUAB ($13.98).
Unfortunately the squab does not taste as juicy as the
first visit, nor is the skin as crispy. However, the meat does taste moist. If anything, I wish the squab was one of the first dishes to arrive because we were running out of table space. Also, the table we had are the ones that fold down on the sides, so the very outer edge where the squab was, was pretty wobbly.
POSITIVES
- Clean interior
- Some items are better than others
- One of the nicer Chinese restaurants
NEGATIVES
- Service was not as good as the
first visit because the staff remembered us and everyone was more laid back, so we had to ask for plate changes frequently
- Inconsistent (no cookies or dessert soup this time)
LITTLE THINGS
- First post on Golden Lake Seafood [
here]
- On my
last visit, I mentioned that dessert at a Chinese restaurant is a make it or break it for me and would only revisit Golden Lake because of the dessert, along with the service. However, unfortunately we got none this time! We arrived a bit before 8:00pm and the restaurant closes at 10:00pm. Around 9:15pm we finished dinner and at 9:30pm, the staff started cleaning up the kitchen as well as vacuuming, and we were not offered any dessert. Of course this is a personal complaint because I am too used to
Pelican Seafood which is five minutes away from Golden Lake, that always provides top notch service for regular, as well as new diners
Food: 3/5
Service: 2.5/5 (for first visits, service should be a 3.5-4/5)
