Come Along Seafood Restaurant 金龍船海鮮酒家 : Dim sum

REVISIT POST FOR DINNER AT COME ALONG [HERE]

I have been to Come Along in total, four times for dim sum (including this visit) and once for dinner. On the first visit, I left the restaurant pretttttty happy and thought the dim sum tasted delicious. The congee tasted amazing, had a nice thickened consistency and is served in a clay pot. Another memorable dish was the pan fried radish cake. The radish cake had a perfect crispy exterior and tasted soft on the inside. And the other usual dim sum dishes tasted average, not bad (chicken feet, spare ribs..).

On the second visit, dim sum was not so great. We were given the wrong congee and the manager kept insisting that we did have the correct pork and preserved egg congee. As he was stubborn and arrogant, he finally mixed the congee ten minutes later and noticed that the congee had clam meat and pickled vegetables.

Finally on the third visit for dim sum, the congee tasted horrible. The congee had an extremely thick consistency which we did not know was even possible. The shredded pork was clumped together and the congee was too hard to mix, it was not tasty either.

This will be my fourth visit to Come Along for dim sum and as much as I think they are the only restaurant with a 60% chance of serving perfectly crisp pan fried radish cake (which is a high percentage IMO), I will not make it a regular restaurant of mine. Also, service is an issue especially with one of the waitresses, she is pretty rude. Oh and for dinner, the food tastes average. The only personal complaint for dinner would be when a waiter was changing our plates, he threw two untouched crab legs out. What the heck right?

LOCAL SEASONAL VEGETABLES, SHANGHAI STEAMED BUNS, STEAMED CHICKEN FEET WITH BLACK BEAN SAUCE, STEAMED SPARERIBS WITH PUMPKIN, STIR FRIED RADISH CAKE WITH XO SAUCE, AND EGG TARTS.

LOCAL SEASONAL VEGETABLES ($4.99). The pan fried chinese vegetables with garlic tastes slightly but not overly oily. Usually I only eat steamed or boiled vegetables, so it was a nice change having sautéed. BF thought the vegetables tasted like heaven and took advantage of grabbing these off the waitress because we rarely order pan fried vegetables.

STEAMED CHICKEN FEET WITH BLACK BEAN SAUCE ($3.95). The chicken feet does not taste too dry, overly saucy or salty and tastes very generic, not bad.

CLAMS WITH BLACK BEAN SAUCE ($6.95).
The clams taste somewhat fresh and the black bean sauce does not taste salty or oily. I am not a fan of black bean sauce and BF ordered these, he enjoyed them.

STEAMED SPARERIBS WITH PUMPKIN ($3.95). The spareribs taste tender with a pleasant chewiness and tastes quite flavourful. On all four visits, the spareribs taste consistently good. The dish does not taste too saucy, oily or salty.

STEAMED SHANGHAI BUNS ($4.95).
At most restaurants during dim sum, the xiao long bao is more of a miss than hit. Diners are a lot better off ordering XLBs at a Shanghai cuisine restaurant, or a restaurant known for them. The XLBs look wrinkly and tastes dry. Also, the skin is a bit too thick and the meat tastes flavourless and hard. These are not very tasty and I do not recommend ordering them. The packaged frozen ones at T&T are definitely a lot better!
FRIED RADISH CAKE WITH XO SAUCE ($4.75). And… the only reason why I am here. I mentioned in the beginning of my post that the radish cake tasted perfect, perfect the first visit. However, the second as well as third visit has tasted soggy. This time, the radish cakes are not as soggy as the last two previous visits but, does not taste crispy either. The radish cakes taste somewhat soggy with no slight crispiness and the inside tastes soft and pillowy.

BAKED EGG TARTS ($3.25).
The egg tart filling tastes slightly sweet, smooth and decently good, no complaints. The crust tastes a bit flaky but not really and tastes average as well. The egg tarts are not bad, passible and can kill a craving, despite not being one of the better ones.
