Kwan Luck Restaurant 君悅海鮮中菜館 (2nd visit)

FIRST POST ON KWAN LUCK [HERE], THIRD REVISIT POST ON KWAN LUCK [HERE]

Another late night dinner with no other option than Chinese cuisine. At this point I am honestly really sick of Chinese food. This is my second visit coming to Kwan Luck and I chose the restaurant because I remember their menu has a lot of options.

DEEP FRIED PRAWNS WITH EGG YOLK, HOT AND SOUR SOUP, HAINAM STYLE RANGE CHICKEN, PORK TORO SLICES WITH BLACK FUNGUS AND GREEN BEAN, HALIBUT WITH GREEN GINGER AND ONION HOT POT, COMPLIMENTARY GREEN BEAN SOUP, PAN FRIED BEEF WITH VERMICELLI, GREEN ONION PANCAKE, AND STEAMED EGGPLANT.

DEEP FRIED PRAWNS WITH EGG YOLK ($7.95). The prawns are lightly battered as well as nicely deep fried and the dish tastes properly made. This is my first time trying the dish and it is what it is... deep fried prawns with an egg yolk taste. They make it work even though I am not much of a fan.

HOT AND SOUR SOUP ($5.95). The soup is very reasonably priced because it is off the late night menu and the portion is pretty large. The hot and sour soup has a tangy taste with a hint of spiciness, and a good amount of shredded pork, tofu, and black fungus.

GREEN ONION PANCAKE PASTRY ($2.50). Whaaaaat the green onion pancake is deep fried rather than pan fried. The pancake is not properly made, has no layers, tastes very doughy, and I am not sure if it is semi-raw or just how they deep fried it.

In the end the pancake was semi-raw and the waitress gave us a new one. This time the pancake is extremely over deep fried. The pancake pretty much sucks, they do not know how to make one and to be honest it is not that hard. The frozen packaged green onion pancakes at T&T taste a lot better. In the restaurant's defence, who comes here to order this anyways? Meh, I wish it killed my green onion pancake craving but it just fed my craving.

PORK TORO SLICES WITH BLACK FUNGUS AND SING GUA ($6.95). The kitchen ran out of sing gua so they replaced it with green beans. The pork toro slices tastes very tasty and tender, the green beans are cooked perfectly with a nice crunch, and the sauce does not taste too saucy, oily, or salty. I really enjoyed the dish (and I never).

HAINAN STYLE RANGE CHICKEN ($6.95). The chicken tastes a bit below average, does not have a hainam taste, but is actually hainam chicken unlike last time. The chicken meat tastes tender, and the ginger sauce has a nice flavourful ginger taste.

HALIBUT WITH GREEN GINGER AND ONION HOT POT ($6.95). The halibut tastes perfectly cooked, meaty, flaky, tasty, and very tender. The sauce does not taste too heavy or salty, and I really like the dish (which I usually don't).

STEAMED EGGPLANT ($10.95). What would my purpose be at the restaurant if I did not order the steamed eggplant again? I asked for no sauce and our waitress looked shocked, she even offered to bring me soy sauce with green onions and it made me kind of sad that the sauce would be wasted. I like the dish because it is what it is.. plain, simple, bland steamed eggplant, just the way I like it.

PAN FRIED BEEF WITH VERMICELLI ($6.95). The beef tastes tender, the noodles are perfectly cooked, and the dish does not taste overly salty or oily. The vermicelli tastes exactly the same as the first time, and has a decent amount of sliced beef, green onions, and bean spouts. For the price, the portion is pretty big.
